HDR Image Format

HDR, or High Dynamic Range, is a technique used in imaging and photography to reproduce a greater dynamic range of luminosity than is possible with standard digital imaging or photographic techniques. This wider dynamic range allows for a more extensive range of brightness levels, resulting in images that are closer to what the human eye can perceive.

There isn't a specific "HDR image format" per se. Instead, HDR imaging typically involves capturing multiple images of the same scene at different exposure levels and then combining them to create a single high dynamic range image. These multiple exposures are usually stored in standard image formats like JPEG or RAW.

There are file formats specifically designed to handle HDR data, such as OpenEXR (.exr) and Radiance HDR (.hdr), which can store high dynamic range images with floating-point pixel values, allowing for a wide range of luminance values. These formats are commonly used in professional applications for storing and processing HDR images.

Additionally, there are image formats like JPEG XR and HEIF (High Efficiency Image Format) that support HDR content by providing extended bit depths and color gamuts, although they may not be exclusively dedicated to HDR images.
